Raptors Run Over and Through Boulder

On a brilliant spring day with temperatures in the eighties the Glendale Raptors ran to a 95 – 0 win over the luckless Boulder RFC.

Glendale Raptor Men DI vs. BoulderThe Raptors jumped out to a 17 – 0 lead in the first seven minutes on a penalty kick by flyhalf Ata Malifa and converted tries to wing Max Statler and debutant scrum half, Matt Guest. The tide would turn on the Raptors for the next seventeen minutes as Boulder threatened to score by keeping the Raptors penned in their own territory. Glendale’s indiscipline also assisted the Boulder cause as the Raptors committed numerous penalties.

Having weathered the Boulder storm, the Raptors would go on to score four more trys in the half, one each to Statler and Guest and then one to flanker Pat Dole in support off wing Dustin Croy’s sideline break. Croy would later score at the horn for a half time lead of 39 – 0.

The Raptors made the match a run away early in the second half as Glendale was constantly on the front foot, playing attacking rugby. Statler would score his third try to start the half before being replaced by Josh Schmitz at wing. Dewon Reed, replacing Croy at half time would run in two trys and assist lock Colby Knepp on another. Justin Howley scored a long-range try off a counter attack that was initiated from a kick deep into Raptor territory. Number eight Mike Kenyon followed up with another converted try from a well-worked short lineout move as he went in untouched.

Hooker Shae Tamati and center Justin Pauga would close out the scoring, both making elusive runs that allowed them to outmaneuver the Boulder defense.

The Raptors will play the Metro Select Side Saturday April 9 at 6:00 PM in Infinity Park.
