Glendale Women conquer Boulder Babes, 33-5
In the first half, the Women Raptors started off slow, being pushed back against their goal for much of the first 20 minutes. The Raptors achieved a quick score at about 10 minutes in as Claire Gregorich split the defense to score by the posts. Katie Thoreson made the conversion to make it 7-0.
Boulder came back hard with some good rucking and ball retention and scored a try. The conversion was missed. The score was 7-5
As the Raptors started to shake of the winter rust, they scored on a kick forward by Thoreson who recovered herself and ran it in for a try. Then, right before the half, great mauling by the forwards allowed the backs to get the ball out quickly as Jenna Anderson pinned the defense and put Bethany Zick away for a try. Thoreson made 1-2, and the Raptors went into halftime with a 19-5 lead.
In the second half, the game's MVP Gregorich made it into the try zone 2 more times with Thoreson making both conversions. The final score was 33-5 in this Western league match.
"We have some great things to build off of after this game, but the team pulled it together for a good victory." Wendy Cook, Women's Head Coach.
"We have some new players in new positions, but I have no doubt this is going to be a very good team when each of the players has more time to get to know each other better." Cook said, "I have to acknowledge the improvements that Boulder has accomplished this year and wish them luck with the rest of the season."
