Raptors Wrangle Queen City Rams

March 15, 2008 - The Glendale Raptors completed their March home schedule with a convincing win over Queen City Rams 57 - 8.

Before a crowd of 518, Queen City started with a heavy a heavy emphasis on physical confrontation and defensive organization. The aggressive defensive pressure stymied the explosive Raptor backs and it was the Rams first on the board with a penalty kick at six minutes, 3 - 0. Despite being under constant Ram pressure, the Raptors had a turn of fortune and off a quick tap penalty, center Mike Graham burst through under the post for a converted try 7 - 3. Queen City continued to dominate possession and pressure throughout the first twenty minutes.

Glendale move further ahead off a powerful lineout that saw the ball moved to one side of the pitch and then reversed to #8 Brad Winbush to score in the corner. Six minutes later from a turnover, the Raptors quickly counterattacked for a converted try as center Corey Sittner dove in under the posts, 19 - 3. As time was running down, Queen City fly half, Travis Mitchell produced a thrilling individual run to the blind side to complete the first half scoring, 19 - 8.

The Raptors began a scoring spree at three minute when lock Nick Tipton scored from a turnover, racing down the right sideline to score. This was followed by an unusual score to flanker Corey Lambert. Queen City, under scum pressure in their in goal and attempting to kick out, had Lambert block and catch the punt in the air, falling to score the try.

Glendale continued effective use of the maul, driving lock Ran Chapman over for the score in the fifty-eight minute, 36 - 8. The next three tries came as a result of creative work of replacement players as fly half Andre Bachelet, back from injury, popped a short kick for Graham to ground under the posts. Wing Sitoa Samate was next to crossover after a series of rucks close to the line. The final try occurred when Bachelet hosted a high kick and the Queen City receiver misplayed the ball, allowing Graham to recover and score a converted try.

Glendale travel to Albuquerque to battle the Aardvarks, March 29 while Queen City plays the Denver Barbarians DII side, March 22.
