Playing Pitch
The Pitch surface is just over 2 acres, making it the largest natural sand based stadium field in the state of Colorado. The surface the grass is on, the root zone, is primarily sand. In fact, it's 2,437.5 cubic yards (1,864 cu. m.) of very precisely sized grains of sand. That is 122 semi truck loads of sand! We use sand since it drains quickly, providing a dry, level playing surface - very safe for the players. Since the sand is a pretty tough environment for grass we had to add 4.76 tons of fertilizers to make the sand have enough nutrients to grow grass. Getting ready for the game, 8 gallons of bright white paint are used to paint the lines, however, almost 40 gallons of paint are used to paint the Raptor and Infinity Park Logos on the field! The Raptor logo itself is almost 1,600 sq. ft. in size - bigger than most houses!
