Women Raptors Romp, Men Fall to Pearl City

Glendale Wire 2008

GLENDALE, CO., April 12 – The Glendale Women Raptors Rugby Football Club continued their winning streak at Infinity Park here with their second shut-out in as many weeks, outlasting the Chicago WRFC (Women Rugby Football Club) 32 to 0.
The lady Raptors led by only 13 to 0 at half time – one of their lowest scoring half’s this season – but more than doubled their halftime score while holding Chicago scoreless. Katie Thoreson, Fly Half-Fullback, was named player of the game.
In one of the most intense games so far this year Iowa’s Pearl City RFC – aka the Black Bears -- led the Glendale Raptors Men at halftime 12 to 10. The Bears maintained the upper hand in the second half holding the Raptors to only three points. The final score was Bears 34, Glendale Raptors 13. Fly Half Taylor Howden was player of the game for the Glendale Raptors.
The matchup was a non-division game and does not affect the Glendale Club’s chances for a possible run for the National Division One Title set to be played at Infinity Park, May 31-June1.
More than 500 fans were on hand for the game. Spring Rugby at Infinity Park has averaged 500 or more since the opening game March 1. Glendale is the first city in the country to adopt rugby as its official sport and Infinity Park is the first Rugby specific stadium and will host to the national playoffs beginning May 31.
