Match Overview

Strong rucking, solid defense and attacking flair helps Glendale Raptors DII defeat Queen City 67 – 18 at Infinity Park. The Raptors came out strong with Spencer Wells and Issac Valdez both going over for tries in the first 10 minutes of the game. Nate Yannacone converted both tries to put the Raptors out to an early 14 – 0 lead. Queen City replied with a penalty shortly after to bring the score back to 14 – 3, but this was the last points Queen City would score for the half. The Raptors went on to score 4 more tries in the first half, converting 3 of these to make the half time score 40 – 3. Queen City came out firing in the second half and opened scoring with a try in the 41st minute. The subsequent conversion made the score 40 – 10. Any idea of a Queen City comeback were quickly squashed as the Raptors scored the next 2 tries through fly half Zach Johnson and inside center Mike Papp. The final 20 minutes of the game were hard fought but Glendale never lost its edge. The Raptors closed the final 10 minutes of the game with 3 more tries, 2 by Spencer Wells and 1 more by Mike Papp. For the Raptors it was a very convincing win after a season that started poorly. The DII Raptors have a bye week this week and look to continue there good from against the Denver Harlequins on October 17th.
