Women’s Offensive Explosion Sinks Ice

Glendale, Colo., Oct. 1– Talk about an icebreaker: The Glendale Women Raptors set off an offensive explosion at Infinity Park here that not only sank the Black Ice but set a stadium scoring record and ranks among the biggest shutouts in U.S. women’s rugby match history. Furthermore Glendale clinched the top CR2 seed to nationals with the 99-0 win.

Glendale Raptor Women vs. Black IceCoach Lisa Rosen’s Raptors is a defensively well-disciplined team that does not give away penalty kicks and thus scores. Remember the Glendale women took the Capital City Ruggerfest championship match with a 39-0 shutout against the host DC Furies earlier this year. The women’s D1 club is now 5-0 with 25 points, and has scored 296 points while only allowing 32.

Hannah Stolba and Bethany Humphrey each recorded hat tricks as the women scored 15 tries and converted in all but three for the win. Andrea Prusinski and Tyra McGrady ran in a bracket of tries while Jen Montoya, Carol Fabrizio, Gabe Fidelman, Heidi Bauer and Tonya Ansel each grounded in goal.

Next weekend Glendale women host Chicago -- one of three teams at 2-2 -- in the team’s final league game at Infinity Park, 2 p.m. The D1 men play an away game versus Boulder at Pleasantview Fields in Boulder, also a 2 p.m. kick. Information: 303-692-5799 or www.glendalerugby.com.
