Glendale Raptors dampen Denver Barbarians rugby post-season hopes E-mail
Written by Colorado Rugby Examiner - Rick Gustafson

The Raptors left their digs in Glendale to make the cross-town trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods StadiumSaturday to face Division I rivals the Denver Barbarians for both clubs' final regular season match.

In the first half it was all Glendale, as the Barbarians’ Division I side allowed the visiting Raptors forty unanswered points on six trys (five converted) to take a 40-0 lead into the break.

In the second half the Raptors were playing for the shutout and succeeded until the seventieth minute when two yellow cards (one for repeated offsides and the second for a high tackle) gave the Barbarians a two man advantage and led to five Denver points, their only points of the game. The Raptors added twelve to their first half total to win 57-5.

Remarkably, with the Denver Rugby Highlanders' 58-19 loss to the Gentlemen of Aspen Saturday the Barbarians are still a long shot for the fourth seed when the Round of 32 Playoffs begins on May 8.

A Highlanders’ win next week against 1-8 Boulder or a loss with a bonus point eliminates the Barbarians and secures a playoff birth for the Highlanders.

Glendale the Western Rugby Football Union's Northern Sub Region’s number two seed will host a playoff match when the Round of 32 Playoffs begins on May 8.
